Ladder Futomomo

A ladder-style futomomo tied on a person in a white bodysuit. They are lying on their back with their knee fully bent and their foot flat on the floor. A single column tie goes around the ankle and two horizontal wraps bind the thigh to the calf. A vertical line connects the upper and lower wraps.

The term “futomomo” refers to a whole class of ties that bind the thigh and calf together. There are many ways to tie futomomos—for a completely different approach, take a look at the spiral futomomo.

The futomomo is a great way to immobilize the legs. We love it for oral sex but find it awkward for penetration.

Step by step

A person in a white bodysuit is lying on their back. Their right leg is fully bent, with the foot flat on the ground and the knee pointing upward. A single column tie has been tied around the right ankle and the rope crosses over the right thigh just below the hip.

1Tie a column tie around the ankle.

You can use single or double wraps throughout the futomomo, depending on your preference and how much rope you have.

The rope makes a full clockwise pass around the leg, going over the thigh right below the crotch and back down to the ankle. It comes around the shin just above the single column tie.

2Bend the leg and wrap the rope around it, going across the thigh, through the crease of the hip, and around the lower leg just above the column tie.

The rope crosses under itself just above the single column tie and makes a reverse tension, pulling back toward the toes.

3Make a reverse tension at the column tie.

The rope makes a full counter-clockwise pass around the leg, going over the shin, up the inside of the leg, and around the thigh. It lies flat next to the first pass and just above it. When it gets back to the ankle it makes a reverse tension through the U shape created by the first reverse tension.

4Wrap around the leg in the opposite direction and make another reverse tension.

The rope goes around both wraps and through itself, making a half hitch that binds the wraps together.

5Tie a half hitch to secure the lower wraps.

The rope travels straight up the leg, over the crease between the calf and the thigh. It stops about six inches below the knee and makes a 90 degree turn to the left. It goes clockwise all the way around the leg and then crosses under itself and reverses direction, making a ladder rung.

6Bring the rope up the leg and make a ladder rung a few inches below the knee.

The rope makes a complete counter-clockwise wrap around the leg, just below the first wrap. It then goes through the U of the first reverse tension and reverses direction, making a second reverse tension.

7Make a second wrap around the leg and reverse tension.

The rope goes under and around both wraps, then under itself to make a half hitch that binds both wraps together.

8Secure the top wraps with a half hitch.

The rope goes down the crease between the calf and thigh, over the bottom wraps, between the calf and thigh to the inside of the leg, over the bottom wraps, and up the crease between the calf and thigh before crossing under the upper wraps on the inside of the leg. It now makes a large U shape that cinches the entire tie together.

9Bring the rope down the outside of the leg, between the calf and thigh, and up the inside of the leg.

Pass under the upper wraps.

The rope comes back over the upper wraps, around the vertical line, and under itself to make a half hitch that secures it to the upper wraps.

10Finish the futomomo by tying off to the upper wraps with one or two half hitches.
